The Guru's Cat
The Guru's Cat

That’s when she told us that the kitten had not survived. After she paid the bill for four days of life support, the doctor had pressed her to take this big white cat that had been abandoned at his clinic. He charged only $20. I named him Bonnie because it meant pretty. Perhaps this name offended him. Outstandingly good-looking, elegant in his stunning white coat, and dazzling blue eyes, Bonnie was not otherwise very agreeable, preferring to be left alone most of the time, and ready to leave a swift, smart scratch on any child whose face peered too close. This did not discourage me. I frequently sported an impressive ragged red line across my nose or down the side of my cheek.
